Water system maintenance & improvements

The company’s agenda to maintain and upgrade the water system is designed to ensure:

In 2025, the company started following 10-year maintenance and improvement plans produced by the company’s engineering consultants Shaw Engineering.

Installed an emergency intertie connecting the OVMWC’s and OVPSD’s water distribution systems
Recoated the lower tank’s interior
Installed remote monitoring and control devices in upper tank overflow piping
Dug drainage ditch along access road in case of lower tank overflow
Began installing cellular water meters
Replaced failed well #1 pump and motor

2019–2023 –
Replaced all but 5% of the remaining original main and lateral pipes financed by the United States Department of Agriculture. Specifically:
- Replaced pipe on Sandy Way, Paiute Pl, Navajo Ct, west end of Christy Ln, and Washoe Dr.
- Installed and relocated to run along the street a new main pipe between lower tank and Navajo Ct.
- Connected lateral pipes between end of Sandy Way and Lanny Lane to eliminate dead-end pipes
2023 – Replaced deficient SCADA by XiO with a reliable, maintainable, open-architecture SCADA
2023 – Installed automatic transfer switch to allow the backup generator to start automatically without operator action
2020 – Installed a backup generator in the wellhouse
2020 – Rehabilitated both vertical wells
2019 – Improved wellhouse, including new siding and roof
2019 – Installed a sewer line in the wellhouse
2019 – Installed fencing and snow protection around Well #2

2009 – Replaced the old redwood water tank with a steel one
2005 – Replaced 6% of the original pipe
1986 – Added 8% to the system’s total pipe for the Squaw Summit development
1980s & 90s – Replaced 12% of the system’s deteriorating original asbestos/cement (AC) pipe with PVC pipe
1950s – Constructed the original water system
